DEFINITION
Perform a variety of duties and responsibilities involved in the set-up, maintenance, janitorial and daily operations of Convention Center facilities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from the Banquet Supervisor or management personnel.
PRIMARY DUTIES--The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
1. Conduct event set-up and tear-down activities; set up tables, chairs, stages, curtains, electricity, sound system and miscellaneous equipment used during banquets, dinners, trade shows, concerts, meetings and dances at Convention Center facilities or catered events; stock appropriate food and beverage centers; set up, inspect, and troubleshoot audio visual equipment including sound and light boards and controls; determine if event is set up properly.
2. Monitor events; ensure customers and public adhere to building, safety, health, fire, and liquor rules and regulations; respond to customer and public requests and inquiries in a courteous manner.
3. Inspect and maintain Convention Center facilities and equipment including lighting and sound systems, electric and manual doors, stages, tables, chairs, and power equipment; monitor and regulate heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.
4. Clean building facilities including offices and restrooms; sweep, mop, strip, wax and polish floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets; dust and wash tables and chairs after each event.
5. Maintain and clean outdoor facilities including patio, sidewalks, and parking lot; sweep and hose debris; remove snow.
6. Assist with training and coordinating the work of part-time employees; monitor work in progress to ensure an efficient and safe work environment.
7. Operate and maintain Convention Center equipment including forklift, jack ladder, power floor machine, power buffer, carpet and furniture shampooers, and miscellaneous hand and power tools.
8. Assist in maintaining cleaning and maintenance supplies inventories.
9. Respond to inquiries and concerns from customers; resolve complaints in an efficient manner.
10. Pick up and deliver items for Convention Center facilities including mail, money, food, and maintenance equipment; provide transportation for event coordinators.
11. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Operational characteristics and maintenance requirements of maintenance tools and equipment.
Customer service procedures and principles.
Cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment.

Applicable tools and equipment operations.
Applicable Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations.
Ability to:
Use and operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment required for the work in a safe and efficient manner.
Install, maintain and repair systems related to area of assignment.
Read and interpret basic maps, blueprints and specifications.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Clean and care for assigned areas and equipment.
Read and understand cleaning chemical mixture and application directions.
Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public and City employees.
Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws and regulations.
Operate and use modern office equipment including computer and various software applications.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Experience and Training Guidelines
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
One (1) year of custodial or event set-up experience.
Training:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
License or Certificate
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.
Some positions in this class may also be required to obtain a Food Handler’s Certificate.
