DEFINITION
Direct, manage, supervise and coordinate the activities and operations of the City golf courses within the Parks & Recreation Department including planning, maintenance, repair and renovation of golf courses; coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, departments and outside agencies; provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Parks and Recreation Director.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from the Director of Golf.
Exercises direct supervision over assigned golf operations and maintenance staff.
PRIMARY DUTIES--The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
1. Manage assigned staff and functions through subordinate supervisors; recommend and approve new hires, terminations and disciplinary actions; ensure training and staff development activities; manage staffing costs.
2. Plan and manage golf course construction, renovation and improvements including but not limited to the design and placement of greens, tees, sand traps, trees, flower beds and other course features; critique of plans and specifications of golf course facilities; provide technical soil and turfgrass information; acquire equipment and purchase necessary supplies to maintain golf course properties.
3. Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities for assigned programs; develop long-range business plans; prepare recommendations for fees; recommend and administer policies and procedures.
4. Oversee and participate in the development and administration of the annual budget; participate in the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments.
5. Interact daily with the public to answer questions and discuss concerns regarding the golf course and associated grounds and facilities; meet with golf associations and tournament committees to answer questions, discuss concerns and plan future events.
6. Serve as the liaison for City golf courses with other divisions, departments and outside agencies; oversee vendor contracts; negotiate and resolve sensitive and controversial issues.
7. Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of golf course management and administration; recommend modifications to golf course programs, policies and procedures as appropriate.
8. Prepare, review, and analyze a variety of reports for department and management staff and outside agencies; evaluate data and communicate activity levels using spreadsheets, graphs, and other aids; make recommendations related to efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures.
9. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Experience and Training Guidelines
Equivalent to:
Experience:
Five (5) years of increasingly responsible golf course administration or management experience including two (2) years of supervisory responsibility.
Training:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in horticulture, agronomy, business administration or a related field.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
License or Certificate
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, Integrated Pest Management Certificate or pesticide license.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, the City of Grand Junction Leadership Track certification within two (2) years of appointment.
