DEFINITION
Perform a variety of duties in the construction, repair and maintenance of City systems and infrastructures including streets, irrigation, storm drainage; operate a variety of light and heavy equipment including trucks, backhoes, fork lifts, graders, and other equipment directly related to area of assignment; set up traffic control; haul materials and supplies; set up work sites; obtain supplies and materials; perform a variety of tasks and respond to public concerns and questions relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from the Operations and Maintenance Supervisor or Crew Leader.
PRIMARY DUTIES--The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
1. Operate a variety of equipment including dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, tractors, forklifts, grounds keeping equipment, snow removal equipment, power and hand tools, and other specialized maintenance and construction equipment related to area of assignment; perform safety and maintenance inspections on assigned vehicle or equipment; perform routine vehicle and equipment repairs in the field.
2. Set up safe and effective traffic control, including street barricades and cones, prior to the performance of maintenance and construction activities to ensure public and worker safety through work zones; direct and control traffic around work sites.
3. Participate in the installation, maintenance, and reconstruction of streets and related systems; clean and seal cracks; dig out and repair sections of road as needed; fill and repair potholes in streets and alleys; patch utility cuts; shovel, rake, distribute, and clean materials necessary for completion of jobs including asphalt used in patching, repairing and reconstructing streets.
4. Install and replace guardrails, barriers, and other street system safety devices.
5. Clean debris from irrigation systems, street and storm drain systems, parking lots, walkways, ditches, and alleys; haul material collected to landfill and dump sites; remove snow and ice from City streets, parking lots, and walkways.
6. Clean and maintain assigned areas; pick up and discard trash and litter; rake leaves; clear snow, ice and other debris from roadways, parking lots, walkways and other facilities.
7. Construct and install improvements to walkways, bike paths, irrigation and storm drain systems including building and forming irrigation and storm drain structures; operate concrete cutting and breaking equipment; construct concrete forms; pour and assist in finishing concrete.
8. Identify and prepare supplies and equipment needed for each assigned project; inform supervisor of equipment conditions and needed repairs; maintain inventory of parts, tools, materials, and equipment; provide information necessary for ordering supplies, equipment and tools needed.
9. Perform outdoor grounds keeping and maintenance of assigned facilities; mow, edge, and trim grounds; spray weeds; perform sprinkler repair and maintenance; operate light tools to seed, shovel walkways, or perform dirt work; paint buildings as assigned; perform indoor facility cleaning and maintenance.
10. Respond to inquiries, concerns, and complaints from other staff and the general public; investigate and resolve issues in an efficient manner.
12. Prepare and maintain a variety of reports, records, and logs related to inspections, readings, and work completed on assigned areas of responsibility.
13. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Methods, standards, techniques, materials, equipment, and tools used in the installation, maintenance, and reconstruction of systems, equipment, and facilities in area of assignment.
Operational characteristics and maintenance requirements of maintenance tools and equipment.
Traffic laws, ordinances, regulations and safety rules involved in truck and heavy equipment operation.
Practices and techniques of metal cutting and welding.

Experience and Training Guidelines
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
One year (1) of general labor experience.
Training:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
License or Certificate
Possession of, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire, a valid Colorado Class “A” Commercial driver’s license.
Some assignments may require the ability to obtain certifications specific to area of assignment.

The following physical activities are very or extremely important in accomplishing the job’s purpose and are performed on a daily basis:
Position requires hearing, talking, sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movements. The position requires both near and far vision for inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. Lifting, carrying and pushing tools, equipment and supplies weighing 50 pounds or more is also required. Materials and chemicals may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. Job may require work in confined spaces. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, and work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions. The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions, vibration and street traffic. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
