DEFINITION
Perform a variety of mechanical work involved in diagnosing, repairing and maintaining a variety of golf course and landscaping maintenance equipment; participate in the maintenance, installation, and reconstruction of golf courses, grounds and related facilities as assigned; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from assigned supervisory staff.
PRIMARY DUTIES--The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
1. Inspect, diagnose, repair and adjust the full range of golf maintenance equipment; troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and two and four cycle gas and diesel engines.
2. Determine the need for equipment replacement or overhaul.
3. Perform preventative maintenance on the full range of parks power equipment and tools.
4. Perform wood and metal fabrication; perform gas and electric welding.
5. Operate a variety of shop tools and machines including diagnostic equipment, grinders, and welders; operate the full range of groundskeeping power equipment and tools.
6. Estimate time, materials and equipment required for jobs assigned; requisition and purchase supplies and materials; maintain records of time, materials, parts and work performed.
7. Manage repair parts and supply inventory; order needed parts and supplies; maintain inventory.
8. Participate in training assigned employees in their areas of work including in the use, care and operation of a variety of groundskeeping power equipment and hand tools.
9. Conduct safety inspections of all assigned equipment and facilities; identify facilities and equipment needing repair.
10. Perform a variety of duties in the installation, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems; adjust and maintain timers and controllers; repair sprinkler heads and lines; locate and repair water breaks; winterize and de-winterize water systems.
11. Perform a variety of duties in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical wiring in assigned facilities; install, adjust, maintain and repair electrical timers, electronic and hydraulic valves and controllers.
12. Maintain repair shop equipment; clean and maintain assigned work area; dispose of hazardous materials.
13. Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Operations, services and activities of a grounds and landscape maintenance program.
Operating, repair, and overhaul characteristics of two and four cycle diesel and gas engines, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and related systems
Methods, equipment, tools and materials used in the overhaul, repair and maintenance of parks power equipment.
Principles and procedures of preventive maintenance.
Principles and procedures used in general carpentry, electrical, electronics, and plumbing maintenance and repair.
Irrigation system installation, repair and maintenance techniques.
Methods and techniques of metal fabrication and welding.
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
Principles and procedures of record keeping.
Pertinent Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations.
Ability to:
Perform a full range of parks equipment maintenance duties with minimal supervision.
Perform preventive maintenance and repair on various parks and golf course equipment.
Use and operate a variety of vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment and hand and power tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Accurately diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic repair needs and estimate the cost and time of repairs.
Perform gas and electric welding activities.
Perform safety inspections and identify safety hazards.
Perform the full range of parks maintenance, reconstruction and repair work.
Perform a full range of general carpentry, cabinet making, electrical, electronics, and plumbing maintenance and repair duties.
Ensure safe operation of parks facilities and equipment.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Read and comprehend complex written repair manuals and other written and oral instructions.
Prepare and maintain shop and repair records.

Experience and Training Guidelines
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
Two years of increasingly responsible parks equipment maintenance and repair experience.
Training:
High School Diploma or GED; supplemented by specialized training in preventative maintenance and routine repair of gas and diesel powered equipment or a related field.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
License or Certificate
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver's license.

The following physical activities are very or extremely important in accomplishing the job’s purpose and are performed on a daily basis:
Position requires hearing, talking, sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25-100 pounds is also required. Materials and chemicals used may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the employee to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment and drive motorized vehicles.
