DEFINITION
Perform a variety of duties and responsibilities involved in assisting City engineering staff; prepare construction drawings and details; prepare complex graphic presentations and displays for public meetings and hearings; provide assistance and information to the public.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from assigned leadworker or management staff.
PRIMARY DUTIES--The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
1. Prepare construction drawings and details for the design and construction of public works projects; prepare drawings from engineering sketches, survey field notes and other data using a variety of specialized computer software.
2. Establish horizontal/vertical control monumentation for projects; establish horizontal location of various systems based on City engineering design standards and specifications; prepare vertical design of various systems to meet City design criteria and to provide new or improved service to residences and businesses.
3. Combine all design methods and disciplines to form complete, correct and concise construction drawings for capital improvement projects.
4. Participate in the preparation of quantity estimates for capital improvement projects.
5. Prepare a variety of illustrations, graphics and visual aids for various meetings and presentations using a variety of specialized software,
6. Provide assistance and information to the public, contractors and others regarding the City's infrastructure and engineering services and activities; respond to questions regarding location of sewer and water service.
7. Assist in the development and maintenance of the record keeping and filing systems.
8. Prepare, assemble and distribute copies of maps, charts and blueprints as requested.
9. Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and priorities for assigned programs; recommend improvements and modifications.
10. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Basic engineering design principles and requirements.
Surveying methods, abbreviations and symbols.
Engineering software including surveying and computer aided design and drafting programs.
Equipment, materials and methods used in construction.
Principles of mathematics as applied to engineering work including algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
Engineering maps and records.
Basic principles and practices of civil engineering.
Principles and practices of record keeping.
English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Modern office technology and equipment, including computers and related software applications.
Applicable tools and equipment operations.
Applicable Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations.
Ability to:
Perform moderately complex mathematic calculations with speed and accuracy, as applied to civil engineering.
Understand, interpret and prepare legal descriptions, records, maps, dedications and metes and bounds descriptions.
Prepare illustrations, graphics, sketches, plans and maps as needed.
Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public and City employees.
Establish and maintain accurate records, logs and files.
Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws and regulations.
Operate and use modern office equipment including computer and various software applications.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Experience and Training Guidelines
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience performing technical engineering work including experience with civil engineering design software programs and applications.
Training:
Associate Degree from an accredited institution with course work in engineering technology.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
License or Certificate
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.
