DEFINITION

 

Perform a variety of advanced level technical engineering duties and responsibilities; provide design and construction management services for assigned projects; coordinate and monitor schedules and progress of capital projects; serve as lead worker over assigned engineering service area.

 

 

JOB CLASSIFICATION

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

 

Receives direction from the Engineering Program Supervisor.

 

Exercises lead supervision over assigned engineering support staff.

 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES--The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

 

1.  Perform leadworker functions including assigning and reviewing daily work of staff, providing input into performance evaluations, training other employees and acting as a resource to other staff.

 

2.  Prepare designs for assigned projects; develop construction drawings and bid documents for capital improvement and other projects; perform quantity calculations and cost estimates.

 

3.  Prepare a variety of maps, records, models and other documentation; determine what surveyed items to illustrate and method of illustration; gather and analyze information from field surveys and record research.

 

4.  Design preliminary, current and final project plans; determine most effective revisions based on assigned project; make modifications as projects progress; coordinate and communicate designs with all affected parties including utility companies, contractors and other surveyors.

 

5.  Prepare and design various exhibits to address property ownership concerns, preliminary and final design concerns and project impact concerns; determine effective means of communication and graphical format to use.

 

6.  Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and priorities for assigned programs; recommend improvements and modifications.

 

7.  Receive and respond to complaints and requests for service and information from citizens and outside agencies; perform research and develop alternatives to solve problems.

 

8.  Monitor quality of work and service provided by drafting team; determine support and training needs; monitor and track schedule of projects.

 

9.  Prepare and maintain a variety of reports, records and logs.

 

10.  Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge of:

 

Lead worker concepts and practices, including training and scheduling of staff.

Engineering design principles and requirements.

Surveying methods, abbreviations and symbols.

Engineering software including surveying and computer aided design and drafting programs.

Equipment, materials and methods used in construction.

Principles of mathematics as applied to engineering work including algebra, geometry and trigonometry.

Engineering maps and records.

Principles and practices of civil engineering.

Principles and practices of record keeping.

English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Modern office technology and equipment, including computers and related software applications.

Applicable tools and equipment operations.

Applicable Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations.

 

Ability to:

 

Lead, monitor, train and review staff and technical work.

Perform moderately complex mathematic calculations with speed and accuracy, as applied to civil engineering.

Understand, interpret and prepare legal descriptions, records, maps, dedications and metes and bounds descriptions.

Prepare illustrations, graphics, sketches, plans and maps as needed.

Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public and City employees.

Work effectively with contractors, consultants and the general public.

Establish and maintain accurate records, logs and files.

Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws and regulations.

Operate and use modern office equipment including computer and various software applications.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

 

Experience and Training Guidelines

Minimum Requirements:

 

 Experience:

 

 Four (4) years of increasingly responsible technical engineering experience.

 

 Training:

 

 Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution with course work in engineering technology.

 

Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

 

License or Certificate

 

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.
