DEFINITION
Perform a variety of routine non-certified law enforcement functions in support of the Police Department; respond to citizen requests and provide information as required; process reports; manage records, handle evidences, assist public inquiries; and perform a variety of duties relative to assigned area of responsibility.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from assigned Police Supervisor.
PRIMARY DUTIES--The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
1. Respond to calls for service from the public at the front counter, by phone, or in person; investigate and prepare appropriate reports on criminal, civil and traffic incidents; issue citations for Municipal Ordinance violations.
2. Provide administrative support for other divisions within the department as necessary; respond to general inquiries from the public.
3. Assist officers in crime scene searches; retrieve and preserve evidence for use in court proceedings; provide testimony in court as necessary in support of actions taken and chain of custody of evidence.
4. Take fingerprints and photographs; train police personnel on the Live Scan fingerprint machine.
5. Provide information to violators and the general public regarding applicable laws and ordinances.
6. Enter, modify, update and retrieve data on a variety of databases regarding stolen and recovered property, drivers’ licenses, vehicle registration information and warrants.
7. Inspect and verify vehicle identification numbers; research ownership records and report discrepancies.
8. Respond to traffic crashes; assist with traffic control; complete traffic crash reports and issue traffic citations for Municipal Ordinance violations; tag and follow-up on abandoned vehicles.
9. Compile information and prepare a variety of written reports, memos and correspondence related to law enforcement activities.
10. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Basic law enforcement organization, activities, and terminology.
Methods and techniques of technical report preparation.
City services and municipal organizational structures as they relate to law enforcement.
Customer service procedures and principles.
Principles and practices of record keeping.
English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Modern office technology and equipment, including computers and related software applications.
Applicable Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations.
Ability to:
Perform a variety of duties in support of non-certified Police Department operations and activities.
Maintain various files and records and prepare clear and concise reports.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public and City employees.
Establish and maintain accurate records, logs and files.
Interpret, apply, explain and enforce pertinent codes, ordinances, laws and regulations with impartiality and efficiency.
Inspect and identify violations of applicable ordinances.
Prepare technical reports, statements and correspondence for court evidence and public presentations.
Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws and regulations.
Operate and use modern office equipment including computer and various software applications.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Speak, read, comprehend, and write the English language fluently.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Experience and Training Guidelines
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
Preferred, one (1) year of law enforcement related experience.
Training:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
License or Certificate
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
