DEFINITION

 

Perform a variety of generalist, project oriented support functions in support of the City Manager's Office; direct or participate in gathering information; make statistical analysis; study special administrative issues; develop improved systems, procedures and forms that enhance the operations of the organization; work closely with all City departments and citizens to carry out specific programs and special projects related to departmental and City requirements; perform other duties as assigned in area of responsibility.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

 

Receives direction from Assistant to the City Manager.

 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES--The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

 

1.  Collect information and data and/or conduct surveys on operational and administrative issues; analyze findings, prepare reports and make recommendations to management.

 

2.  Respond to requests or concerns from the general public, investigate situation, recommending and following-up with appropriate action(s); as needed, involve appropriate staff with problem resolution.

 

3.  Work with all levels of department and management staff to develop programs; review operations and prepare documents related to finances, resource utilization and work plans; assist in implementation of programs and policies; coordinate policies and programs with other department and City staff; lead or participate on independent committees working to resolve problems.

 

4.  Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives for assigned programs and functions; implement policies and procedures; evaluate operations and activities of assigned responsibilities; recommend improvements and modifications.

 

5.  Track and update state legislations that may impact assigned programs and operations; prepare reports and make recommendations based on findings.

 

6.  Coordinate and advise various councils, committees, boards and conferences; oversee assigned projects and events; assist in writing promotional materials, developing strategic plans, scheduling event details and respond to inquiries from the general public and other staff.

 

7.  Perform technical research and respond to requests for information on municipal policies and procedures; coordinate communication between individuals and appropriate department personnel as necessary.

 

8.  Support analysis of interrelated City operations to assist in delivering high-performance, cost-effective programs and services that promote organizational and community resilience.

 

9.  Participate in the tracking and coordination of City initiatives and strategic plans; monitor progress using performance metrics and assist in communicating updates to internal and external stakeholders.

 

10.  Serve as a liaison for City participation with external organizations and provide support for outreach and technical assistance related to assigned initiatives.

 

11.  Prepare technical reports, presentations and correspondence. 

 

12.  Provide coverage for front desk administrative staff.

 

13. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Principles and practices of project management.

Methods and techniques of effective technical report preparation and presentation.

Advanced mathematical concepts, including statistical analysis and comparison.

Experience and Training Guidelines

Minimum Requirements:

 

 Experience:

 

 Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in administrative and management project experience; preferably in governmental research, finance or public administration.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Training:

 

 Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration, business administration, political science or related field. Master’s Degree in Public or Business Administration or a related field is preferred.

 

Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

 

License or Certificate

 

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.
