DEFINITION
Direct, oversee and coordinate an assigned Fire Department battalion or section and ensure the quality of services delivered; responsible for department operational resources to include personnel safety, apparatus, equipment and facilities; implement program goals and objectives; coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, departments and outside agencies; perform a variety of administrative tasks in support of assigned area of responsibility. May rotate through other Administrative Fire Officer positions.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general direction from assigned Deputy Fire Chief.
Exercises supervision over assigned operational staff.
PRIMARY DUTIES--The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
1. Supervise and coordinate fire suppression and ambulance companies on an assigned shift; command firefighting strategy and tactical activities in response to fire incidents and alarms; utilize the incident command system to address and mitigate a variety of emergency and non-emergency incidents.
2. Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of assigned staff or division; participate in the selection of assigned staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.
3. Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives for assigned programs and functions; implement policies and procedures; evaluate operations and activities of assigned responsibilities; recommend improvements and modifications.
4. Participate in providing monthly training in hazardous materials response, firefighting, rescue and emergency medical services.
5. Oversee the operations and maintenance of station facilities; conduct periodic inspections to ensure code compliance.
6. Oversee and maintain record keeping within assigned records management systems; review reports and data; generate regular reports as needed; ensure compliance and security of records.
7. Oversee the inspection of and ensure proper operation of fire apparatus and equipment; assist with the development of equipment specifications; research and recommend equipment and apparatus purchases.
8. Participate in the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; monitor assigned budget and approve expenditures; implement adjustments.
9. Participate in Local and State-wide disaster planning activities; participate in disaster drills and post-incident analyses.
10. Prepare and maintain a variety of records and logs; prepare a variety of reports.
11. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:

Experience and Training Guidelines
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
Five (5) years of increasingly responsible fire suppression, prevention and emergency medical response experience including three years of administrative and supervisory experience.
Training:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business administration, fire science, emergency medicine management or a related field.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
License or Certificate
Possession of a valid Colorado driver’s license.
Possession of a valid Fire Officer I certificate.
Possession of a valid State of Colorado EMT-B certificate.
Possession of a valid Hazardous Materials Operations certificate.
Possession of a Training Officer I certificate (preferred).
Possession of ICS 300 certificate.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to balance, sit, walk, twist, demonstrate manual dexterity, grasp, talk, hear, and see. The employee will be exposed to smoke, heat, and varying weather conditions that may be hot, cold, or wet. The employee is required to stay calm during stressful and possibly life-threatening situations.
