DEFINITION

 

Perform logistics functions to include purchasing, inventory control, forecasting, preventative maintenance and repair of protective equipment, vehicles, apparatus, station supplies, and fixed facilities.

 

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

 

Receives direction from the Battalion Chief of Administration.

 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES--The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

 

1.  Responsible for purchasing and control of consumable and non-consumable goods to include PPE, uniforms, medical and station cleaning supplies; acquire bids within established City guidelines; inspect and receive incoming supplies.

 

2.  Perform maintenance and repairs on department equipment to include self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), extrication equipment, small gas engines, power cots, heart monitors and other equipment as needed; move emergency apparatus and equipment between locations.

 

3.  Inventory and issue equipment to employees and collect equipment for employees leaving the organization.

 

4.  Participate in forecasting future needs for apparatus, tools, protective equipment, facilities, supplies and materials; research new technologies to develop recommendations.

 

5.  Create radio programming templates and conduct and/or coordinate programming.

 

6.  Coordinate annual pump and ladder testing and maintain appropriate records.

 

7.  Process the mail; receive, sort, and distribute incoming and outgoing corresponĀ­dence and packages.

 

8.  Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

 

 

Experience and Training Guidelines

Minimum Requirements:

 

 Experience:

 

 One (1) year of experience in logistics, inventory, warehousing, purchasing, and/or maintenance and repair preferred.

 

 Training:

 

 High School Diploma or G.E.D.

 

Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

 

License or Certificate

 

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Colorado driver's license.

 

SCBA service technician certification or ability to obtain within one year of employment.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge of:

Inventory control and records management systems.

Methods, equipment, tools, and materials used in minor equipment repair or preventative maintenance.

Fire and EMS equipment and related NFPA standards.

Fire and EMS service operations.

Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

Modern office technology and equipment, including computers and related software applications.

Applicable Federal, State, and local codes, laws and regulations.

 

 

Ability to:

Maintain accurate and current records of transactions.

Evaluate quality and price of products to judge suitability of goods and alternatives offered.

Maintain adequate stock levels.

Manage a budget.

Understand and operate under City procurement rules, regulations, and standards.

Operate and use modern office equipment including computer and various software applications.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Interpret and apply Federal, State, and local policies, laws and regulations.

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The following physical activities are very or extremely important in accomplishing the job's purpose and are performed on a daily basis:

Position requires hearing, talking, sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25-100 pounds is also required. Materials and chemicals used may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the employee to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment and drive motorized vehicles.
