SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from the Recycling/Waste Reduction Supervisor.
PRIMARY DUTIES--The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
1. Operate a variety of equipment to include forklifts, hand tools, skid steers, and other specialized maintenance and recycling equipment; perform safety inspections, maintenance, and repairs on equipment.
2. Collect and sort recyclable material at the facility; offload incoming trucks and trailers; compress and stack recyclable material; service and empty drop off tanks; provide drop off customer service and instruction.
3. Transfer recyclable materials from customer locations to facility; provide public with information regarding recycle collection process.
4. Maintain drop off area, including opening/closing procedures, cone placement, securing and servicing the drop off tanks.
5. Maintain municipal cleanliness; ensure walkways, fence line and other buildings within proximity of facility are clear of debris/hazards; tarp material to maintain quality of commodities.
6. Perform safety duties to include safe material handling and cone placement for traffic control.
7. Clean and maintain assigned areas; ensure walkways are clear of debris/hazards, maintain municipal campus cleanliness along fence line and all other buildings within proximity of facility.
8. Drive a recycling truck; collect and sort recyclable material; transport recyclable material to drop off recycle center; collect and deliver plastic containers and totes; provide public with information regarding recycle collection process.
9. Identify and prepare supplies and equipment needed for each assigned project; maintain and provide information to order parts, tools, materials, and equipment.
10. Prepare and maintain a variety of reports, records, and logs related to inspections and work completed.
11. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Knowledge of:
Operations, services, and activities of assigned maintenance function.
Operational characteristics and maintenance requirements of maintenance tools and equipment.
Traffic laws, ordinances, regulations, and safety rules involved in truck and heavy equipment operation.
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
City geography and street locations.

Principles and practices of record keeping.
English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Applicable tools and equipment operations.

Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
One year (1) of general labor experience.
Training:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
License or Certificate
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver's license.

The job is characterized by:
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
The following physical activities are very or extremely important in accomplishing the job’s purpose and are performed daily:
Position requires hearing, talking, sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movements. The position requires both near and far vision for inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. Lifting, carrying, and pushing tools, equipment and supplies weighing 50 pounds or more is also required. Materials and chemicals may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. Job may require work in confined spaces. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, and work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions. The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions, vibration, and street traffic. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
