 DEFINITION 

 

Develop, manage, and coordinate preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance schedules and job plans to ensure optimal operation of wastewater treatment facilities; implement inventory management, monitor critical assets, and analyze equipment failure trends to improve performance and reliability; collaborate with operators, technicians, engineers, procurement, and vendors to streamline workflows, reduce downtime, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED 

 

Receives direction from the Wastewater Plant Maintenance Supervisor.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES--The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification.  Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned. 

 

1.  Develop, manage, and maintain preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance schedules for plant and lift station systems and facilities; schedule maintenance to minimize impact on plant performance. 

 

2.  Coordinate maintenance programs; perform analysis through collaboration with cross-functional teams and vendors; utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to track work orders, inspections, equipment history, and spare parts; onboard and decommission assets while overseeing related workflows. 

 

3.  Create job plans that define labor, tools, materials, and equipment requirements, with strict adherence to safety and environmental standards; maintain accurate records for regulatory compliance and audits. 

 

4.  Implement an inventory management program; order and manage spare parts and maintenance supplies, ensuring optimal inventory. 

 

5.  Monitor the condition of critical assets and recommend preventative maintenance strategies, upgrades or replacements to optimize reliability. 

 

6.  Analyze equipment failure trends and assist in root cause analysis to improve asset performance and reliability. 

 

7.  Assist in budget development and monitor maintenance-related expenditures; analyze cost trends, prepare recommendations on division budget allocations, and advise management on resource planning.  

 

8.  Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast on emerging trends, best practices and innovations in wastewater maintenance.  

 

9.  Perform other duties of a similar nature or level. 

 

 

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

 

Knowledge of: 

 

Mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems common in wastewater treatment 

Principles of asset management. 

Operations, services, and activities of a maintenance program.  

Principles, methods, materials, and tools employed in the repair and maintenance of pumps, motors, valves, and related equipment. 

Wastewater treatment plant operations. 

Industrial machinery, equipment, and processes. 

Mechanics, pipefitting, hydraulics, pneumatic, electricity, electronics and millwright, and the tools/instruments used in such maintenance and repair work. 

Relationships and dynamics of treatment process flow and physical characteristics. 

Distribution and collection systems. 

Occupational hazards and standard safety practices. 

Regulatory application and operating requirements. 

Modern office technology and equipment, including computers and related software applications. 

Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software  

Applicable Federal, State, and local codes, laws, and regulations. 

 

Ability to: 

 

Organize, plan, and manage work activities with required labor, equipment, materials. 

Read and understand technical manuals, blueprints, shop drawings and sketches. 

Perform preventative maintenance on plant equipment and systems.

Experience and Training Guidelines 

Minimum Requirements: 

 

Experience: 

 

 Three (3) years of plant maintenance experience in wastewater, water, or an industrial setting.  

 

Training: 

 

High School Diploma or G.E.D. supplemented by specialized training in the areas of mechanical equipment maintenance and repair or related field. 

 

Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

License or Certificate 

 

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license. 

Possession of, or ability to obtain within 1 year, Colorado Class B Wastewater Operations and Collections 3 certifications 

Possession of, or ability to obtain within 1 year, a Certified Maintenance Planner (CMP) or similar certification.

Job may require work in confined spaces. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders and use power and noise producing tools and equipment.  The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
