PEOPLE'S ORDINANCE NO. 5

 

 AN ORDINANCE CONCERNING THE SALE OF LOT 16, IN BLOCK 125 IN THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION, AND PROVIDING FOR THE PURCHASE OF THE NECESSARY REAL ESTATE AND THE BUILDING THEREON OF A NEW FIRE ENGINE HOUSE AND CITY JAIL, AND PROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT OF SUCH REAL ESTATE AND BUILDING.

 

 WHEREAS, the City of Grand Junction is the owner of Lot 16, in Block 125, in the City of Grand Junction, on which lot stands a brick building, occupied and used by said City as fire engine house and city jail; and

 

 WHEREAS, the said building is not adapted for the use and growing needs of the city, and it is desirable to sell said lot and building thereon, and to purchase the necessary real estate, and to build thereon a building to be used as a fire engine house and city jail.

 

 THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO, AND BE IT ORDAINED BY THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF SAID CITY, UPON REFERENDUM BY THE CITY COUNCIL THEREOF:

 

 SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Grand Junction shall sell said Lot 16, in Block 125, in the City of Grand Junction, provided said sale can be made for a reasonable amount, and said city council, by its mayor and city clerk, under the seal of said city, are hereby authorized, instructed and required to convey to the purchaser of said lot, by good and sufficient deed of conveyance, all the right, title and interest of the city of Grand Junction and the inhabitants thereof in and to said lot.

 

 SECTION 2. The City Council shall thereupon purchase a lot or lots centrally located in said city and construct thereon a good and substantial building to be used as fire engine house and as city jail, which building and real estate shall not cost the city in excess of the amount received from the sale of said Lot 16 plus the tax levy herein provided for.

 

 SECTION 3. The City Council shall apply the money received from the sale of said Lot 16 to the purchase of said necessary real estate, and the erection of said building thereon, and it shall levy a tax not exceeding one mill in amount upon each dollar of taxable property in the city of Grand Junction for the purpose of paying the balance due on the purchase of said real estate and the erection of said new building.

 

 Passed and adopted this 4th day of November, 1913.

 

 WE HEREBY CERTIFY, that at an adjourned regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Grand Junction, Colorado, held October 14th, 1913, the above and foregoing ordinance was introduced, read and ordered published and submitted to a vote of the qualified electors of said city for their adoption or rejection at a regular election to be held in said city on November 4, 1913.

 

 Pursuant thereto, said ordinance was duly and regularly published on October ________, 1913, in The Daily Sentinel of said city, a daily newspaper of general circulation printed and published in said city, and in pursuance thereof and in accordance with the law in such case made and provided, said ordinance was duly and regularly submitted to a vote of said qualified electors for their adoption or rejection at a regular election held in said City on November 4th, 1913, at which election a majority of the votes of said electors voting on said question were cast in favor of the adoption of said ordinance, and said ordinance was thereby duly and regularly adopted.

 

 Thereafter, at an adjourned regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Grand Junction, Colorado, held November 6, 1913, pursuant to the charter of said city, said ordinance was ordered recorded and numbered "People's Ordinance No. 5," and was ordered published in The Daily Sentinel of said City.
