PEOPLE'S ORDINANCE NO. 18

 

 AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE ASSISTANCE BY THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION IN THE PURCHASE OF A SITE FOR THE JUNIOR COLLEGE OF GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO AND PROVIDING FOR AN APPROPRIATION THEREFOR.

 

 WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the State of Colorado, in session in 1925, established in the City of Grand Junction, Mesa County, Colorado, a Junior College to be known as "The Junior College of Grand Junction, Colorado," provided that a suitable tract of land should be donated to the State of Colorado for the site of said institution; and

 

 WHEREAS, the Governor of the said State has appointed, under the terms of said Act, three Trustees to have charge of said site, and whose duty it will be to superintend the improvements thereon and to beautify the same; and

 

 WHEREAS, a site has been selected by the said Trustees which will cost the sum of $2360.00; and

 

 WHEREAS, it is desired that the City of Grand Junction, Colorado, pay $1000.00 on said purchase price, the balance thereof being provided from other sources.

 

 THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Grand Junction, Colorado, and be it ordained by the qualified electors of the said City of Grand Junction, Colorado, upon referendum by the City Council thereof:

 

 SECTION 1. That the sum of $1000.00 be and the same is hereby appropriated for the purpose of assisting, in said amount, in the purchase of a site for The Junior College of Grand Junction, Colorado; that the said sum so appropriated be expended under the orders of the City Council of Grand Junction, Colorado, toward the purchase of a site for the said Junior College in or near the said City of Grand Junction, and to become immediately available for the said purpose on the passage and adoption of this ordinance.

 

 SECTION 2. That the necessity of said expenditure and of the passage of this special appropriation ordinance is hereby found and declared to be caused by an unforeseen contingency arising since the passage of the annual appropriation ordinance for the year 1925.

 

 WE HEREBY CERTIFY that at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Grand Junction, Colorado, held July 15th, 1925, the above and foregoing Ordinance was introduced, read and ordered published and submitted to a vote of the qualified electors of said City for adoption or rejection at a special Municipal election to be held August 18, 1925.

 

 Pursuant thereto said ordinance was duly and regularly published on July 31, 1925 in The Daily Sentinel of said City, a daily newspaper of general circulation printed and published in said city, and in further pursuance thereof and in accordance with the law in such case made and provided, said Ordinance was duly and regularly submitted to a vote of said qualified electors for their adoption or rejection at a Special Municipal Election held in said City on the 18th day of August, 1925, at which election a majority of the votes of said electors voting on said question were cast in favor of the adoption of said Ordinance and said Ordinance was thereby duly and regularly adopted.

 

 Thereafter at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Grand Junction held August 19, 1925, pursuant to the Charter of said City said Ordinance was ordered recorded and numbered People's Ordinance No. 18, and was ordered published in said Daily Sentinel of said City.
