RESOLUTION NO. 11-94
WHEREAS, interest in walking, hiking, running, bicycling, horseback riding, mountain biking, snowmobiling and riding many types of trail vehicles is increasing dramatically among Colorado residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, trail activities are enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities and are an important part of Colorado's outdoor recreation; and
WHEREAS, these trail activities contribute to tourism and the state's economy, provide access to the natural environment; and
WHEREAS, the state has established a state trails program to help communities establish a statewide network of trails with the assistance of Colorado Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation revenue; and
WHEREAS, Colorado citizens, volunteers, businesses and local governments have made great progress in building trails systems, both urban and rural, throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, the Western Slope ATV Association, a non-profit Association, with a grant from OHV funds would purchase a trail maintenance making machine that will be given to the US Forest Service and the BLM, to be used jointly on the Public lands; and
WHEREAS, the use of this trail machine would provide a safe and improved road and trail system that would protect the environment and natural resources;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Grand Junction City Council supports the above Resolution.
