RESOLUTION NO. 27-94

 

 APPROVING A HALF-TIME COORDINATOR FOR THE

 ARTS COMMISSION

 

 

 

 WHEREAS, the Grand Junction City Council recognizes that the arts are vital to the community's quality of life; and

 

 WHEREAS, the City Council created the Grand Junction Arts Commission in 1989 and has financially supported the Arts Commission; and

 

 WHEREAS, the Arts Commission desires to support and nurture the arts and cultural activities in the community; and

 

 WHEREAS, the City has budgeted $25,000 for the Arts Commission in the 1994 budget; and

 

 WHEREAS, the Arts Commission has requested the funding of a Coordinator and the City Council desires to support the Arts Commission.

 

 

 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GRAND JUNCTION CITY COUNCIL:

 

 1.  The Grand Junction Arts Commission is hereby authorized to contract for an independent half-time Arts Coordinator. The 1994-1995 budgets for the Commission shall be increased as outlined on the attached addendum dated March 15, 1994.

 

 2. The Arts Commission will work with the Downtown Development Authority to arrange office space for this coordinator.

 3. This approved half-time contract position will be supervised by the Arts Commission and will work to carry out the following goals of the Commission as approved by the City Council:

 

 a. promote arts and culture throughout the community,

 b. coordinate and foster cooperation among artists and arts  organizations,

 c. maintain and distribute a calendar of community arts and

 cultural activities,

 d. be a clearinghouse for information on artists, arts and

 cultural organizations and events,

 e. maintain a periodically updated City strategic cultural

 plan and,

 f. expand opportunities for the display of art.

 

 

 

 4. The City Council will review this position and the current goals of the Commission on a periodic basis and make changes as needed.
