CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO

 

 Resolution No. 123-95

 DESIGNATING THE WHITMAN SCHOOL

 IN THE CITY REGISTER OF HISTORIC SITES, STRUCTURES, AND DISTRICTS

 

 

 WHEREAS, the City Council has established by Ordinance 2765 a City Register of Historic Sites, Structures and Districts in order to officially recognize historic resources of local significance; and

 

 WHEREAS, the property owner of the Whitman School is aware of and consents to the designation of this property as a local historic resource; and

 

 WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Board has reviewed the Whitman School for conformance to the adopted criteria for designating historic resources and finds that the building meets the following criteria: structure is at least 50 years old; exemplifies cultural, political, economic or ethnic heritage of the City; enhances the sense of identity of the City; and is an established and familiar visual feature of the City; and

 

 WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Board recommended approval of the designation at its December 4, 1995 meeting; and

 

 WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the Whitman School meets the criteria set forth by the Historic Preservation ordinance and, therefore, is a significant local historic resource that merits recognition and preservation.

 

 

 NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION:

 

 That the Whitman School located at 248 South 4th Street is hereby designated a historic building in the City Register of Historic Sites, Structures and Districts.
