RESOLUTION NO. 80-96

 

A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE SCHOOL DISTRICT BOND ISSUE FOR 1996

 

WHEREAS, Mesa County School District 51 student population has grown, in

 conjunction with the growth of the Grand Valley, from 15,500 in 1980 to over  19,000 students in 1996; and

 

WHEREAS, Mesa County last passed a school building bond issue in

 1980; and

 

WHEREAS, the other additions to the School District came in the form

 of an Underwood election 9 years ago; and

 

WHEREAS, the aforementioned building efforts have not been able to

 keep up with the critical space demands; and

 

WHEREAS, School District 51 has been minimally funded through the

 State Equalization Formula for the past 20 years; and

 

WHEREAS, School District 51 must again seek support from the

 community.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that:

 

 1. The Grand Junction City Council declares its' support for the importance of education in our community and believes the children of our community should be able to attend adequate facilities; and

 

 2. The Grand Junction City Council declares its' support to the School District 51 election issue contained in the November 5, 1996, ballot.
