A RESOLUTION SETTING FORTH THE NOTICE OF ELECTION

FOR THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD

ON APRIL 8, 1997 IN THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO THAT:

The Election Notice hereinafter be the Notice of the Regular Municipal Election to be held in the City on April 8, 1997, and further that the same be published in accordance with election procedures:

CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO

NOTICE OF REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION

TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, THE 8TH DAY OF APRIL, 1997

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT A REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY, THE 8TH DAY OF APRIL, 1997, IN THE POLLING PLACES HEREINAFTER DESIGNATED IN THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO.

That said Regular Municipal Election will be held at the polling places in the several districts of the City of Grand Junction as follows:

District A, Precinct 1 - Orchard Mesa Middle School

2736 Unaweep Avenue

District A, Precinct 2 - Wingate Elementary School

334 South Camp Road

 

District B, Precinct 3 - Mesa View Retirement Center

601 Horizon Place

 

District C, Precinct 4 - Northeast Christian Church

2001 Patterson Road

District D, Precinct 5 - Visitor & Convention Center

749 Horizon Drive

District E, Precinct 6 - Lincoln Park Elementary School            600 N. 14th Street

Upon the date at the places designated, the polls will be open from the hour of 7:00 a.m. and will be closed at the hour of 7:00 p.m. Voting devices will be provided in each polling place for the election. The ballots to be used in voting will be prepared and furnished by the City Clerk to the Judges of Election, to be by them furnished to the voters. The election will be held and conducted as nearly as may be as prescribed by law.

 Applications for absentee ballots are available from the City Clerk, 250 N. 5th Street, Grand Junction, Co. 81501. Absent voter machines will be provided in the City Clerk’s Office during normal business hours starting Friday, March 28, 1997 until Friday, April 4, 1997.

 

 Registered voters within the city limits of Grand Junction are qualified to vote. Registration of voters for the said election has taken place in the time and manner now provided by law.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL THAT AT THE SAID REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION ON APRIL 8, 1997, there be submitted to the electorate the following questions:

Shall the City Council be authorized to sell or trade, for no less than the fair  market value thereof, the following described real property consisting of approximately 17.5 acres of vacant land located North of Patterson Road and West of 30 Road, commonly known as Burkey Park Property; if traded, the lands traded for shall be at least equal in value and shall be used for park purposes, and, if sold, the moneys received shall be used to improve existing park lands or to acquire other park lands:

 

The West 1/2 of the Southeast 1/4 of the Southeast 1/4 of Section 5, Township 1 South, Range 1 East of the Ute Meridian, County of Mesa, State of Colorado, EXCEPT a tract described as follows: Beginning at the Southwest Corner of the Southeast 1/4 of the Southeast 1/4 of said Section 5; thence North 180.0 feet; thence East 291.2 feet; thence South 180.0 feet; thence West 291.2 feet to the Point of Beginning, ALSO EXCEPT the South 50.0 feet for road right-of-way, ALSO EXCEPT the North 50.0 feet for road right-of-way.

SHALL ARTICLE II, SECTION 38 OF THE CITY CHARTER BE AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS:

 

38. Salaries. - At least two meetings of the City Council shall be held monthly at such times as may be fixed by the Council, such two meetings to be known as the regular meetings. All other meetings of the City Council shall be known as special meetings or adjournments. The President of the Council shall be paid a salary of $600.00 per month and all other Councilmembers shall each be paid a salary of $500.00 per month.
