RESOLUTION NO. 50-97
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION WHEREBY THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION DIRECTS THE TRANSIT DEVELOPMENT PLAN COMMITTEE TO PROCEED WITH WRITING THE 1998-2002 TRANSIT DEVELOPMENT PLAN BASED ON THE COMMITTEE’S RECOMMENDED PREFERRED ALTERNATIVE FOR PUBLIC TRANSIT SERVICES.
WHEREAS, A Five-Year Transit Development Plan is required to be developed and approved by local governments in Mesa County by September 10, 1997 in order for Mesa County to continue receiving Federal Transit Administration funding for transit services; and
WHEREAS. A Transit Development Plan Committee was appointed to develop a recommendation for transit services in this area, including representatives from the City of Grand Junction, City of Fruita, Mesa County and the Mesa County Civic Forum under the guidance of the Grand Junction/Mesa County Metropolitan Planning Organization; and
WHEREAS, The Transit Development Plan Committee is recommending a preferred alternative for public transit in Mesa County consisting of the following:
1. The critical priority is to meet the needs of persons with mobility
impairments or disabilities, elderly persons and low income
persons (unemployed and working poor).
2. Recommend an incremental increase in transit.
3. In 1998, return to 1996 levels of service for elderly & disabled.
4. In 1999, purchase 5 vehicles for limited fixed-route service.
5. In 2000, begin operations of a limited fixed-route service; and
WHEREAS, On August 4, 1997 at a regular City Council workshop, the Council was briefed regarding this perferred alternative; and
WHEREAS, On August 6, 1997 public input regarding the Transit Development Plan Committee’s recommended preferred alternative was solicited at a joint meeting between the Grand Junction City Council, the Fruita City Council, and the Board of County Commissioners.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO:
That the Grand Junction City Council hereby approves the Transit Development Plan Committee’s recommended preferred alternative for public transit in Mesa County and directs the Transit Development Plan Committee the TDP Consultant to draft the 1998-2002 Transit Development Plan based on this preferred alternative. The City’s contribution is limited to $50,000 per year for five years.
