ORDINANCE NO. 254.

 

AN ORDINANCE CONCERNING THE LICENSING OF MOTOR BUSSES AND PASSENGER VEHICLES RUNNING ON THE STREETS OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION.

 

Be it Ordained by the City Council of the City of Grand Junction, Colorado:

 

Section 1. It shall be unlawful for any person or persons, firm or corporation to operate or run, or cause or permit any of their agents or employees to operate or run any motor-propelled bus, jitney or vehicle in, along, through, over or upon any of the streets of the City of Grand Junction, or to carry on the business of transporting passengers for hire in any motor-propelled bus or busses, or in any horse drawn vehicle, in said city, whether the route travelled is entirely within said city or partly within and partly without said city, without first having obtained a license so to do.

 

Sec. 2. The annual fee for motor-propelled busses or any vehicle used principally or exclusively for carrying passengers as stipulated in section 1 of this ordinance shall be as follows: For bus, jitney or vehicle carrying four passengers or less, $15.00; for bus, jitney or vehicle carrying five or more passengers, $25.00. No license for such bus, jitney or passenger vehicle shall be issued for a shorter period than six months, and all licenses so issued shall be dated from January 1st or July 1st, as the case may be, of the current fiscal year.

 

Sec. 3. Every motor bus, jitney or vehicle licensed as herein provided shall have fixed thereto, in a conspicuous place, a license plate not less than three inches in length, giving the number of the license and the year of issue, which number shall be assigned to such bus, jitney or vehicle by the city clerk at the time of issuing the license therefor. No motor bus, jitney or vehicle shall be deemed licensed under this ordinance unless it shall have attached thereto the license plate as herein provided.

 

Sec. 4. Nothing in this ordinance contained shall be deemed to apply to any street or interurban railway car, or to any motor-propelled vehicles used exclusively for carrying passengers and merchandise to and from towns or cities located two or more miles from the city of Grand Junction.

 

Sec. 5. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall, on conviction thereof, be fined not less than ten dollars nor more than fifty dollars for each offense.

I HEREBY CERTIFY, that the foregoing ordinance, entitled "An Ordinance Concerning the Licensing of Motor Busses and Passenger Vehicles Running on the Streets of the City of Grand Junction," was introduced, read and ordered published at a regular adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of Grand Junction, Colorado, held on the 20th day of September, A. D. 1916, and that the same was published in full in The Daily Sentinel, a daily newspaper published and in general circulation in said city, at least ten days before its passage.
