ORDINANCE NO. 280.

AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE LICENSING OF SECOND HAND STORES.

 

Be it Ordained by the City Council of the City of Grand Junction, Colorado:

 

Section 1. No person, firm or corporation shall engage in the business, in the City of Grand Junction, Colorado, of keeping a second hand store or place for buying and selling second hand goods, without first obtaining a license therefor as in this ordinance provided. The fee charged shall be five dollars ($5.00) for license for one year.

 

Section 2. Each person, firm or corporation licensed under this ordinance shall keep a book in the form prescribed by the Chief of Police of the City of Grand Junction, in which shall be plainly written in ink, at the time of each purchase, an accurate description in the English language of the goods, article or thing purchased, the date of the receipt of the same and the name, residence and description of the person selling the same, which book, as well as the article purchased, shall at all reasonable times be open to the inspection of any member of the Police Department.

 

Section 3. No person, firm or corporation licensed under this ordinance shall sell or remove from his place of business any such second hand goods, article or thing purchased by him as aforesaid, until the same shall have been in his possession at least five days; provided, however, that this section is not applied to furniture or household goods.

 

Section 4. No person, firm or corporation licensed under this ordinance shall purchase any second hand goods, article or thing from any person under eighteen (18) years of age, or from any person who at the time of the purchase is intoxicated, or from any person known by the purchaser to be a thief or an associate of thieves, or receiver of stolen property, or from any person he has reason to suspect of being such.

 

Section 5. Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be fined not less than five ($5.00) dollars or more than one hundred ($100.00) dollars for each offense.

D. 1919, and that the same was published in full in The Daily News, a daily newspaper published and in general circulation in said city, at least ten days before its passage.
