ORDINANCE NO. 402

 

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 2 OF ORDINANCE NO. 391, PASSED AND ADOPTED SEPTEMBER 16TH, 1925, AND ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE CONCERNING ASHES: THE STORAGE AND DEPOSIT THEREOF IN RECEPTACLES AND PITS: THE REQUIREMENTS OF CONSTRUCTION OF ASH PITS: AND RECEPTACLES FOR ASHES AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION THEREOF."

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO, that Section 2 of Ordinance No. 391 be and the same is hereby amended so as to read as follows, to-wit:

 

Section 2. All receptacles for ashes shall be built of brick, cement concrete, stone, metal or other incombustible materials. Receptacles built of brick, cement concrete, stone or other like materials shall have walls not less than eight inches thick, except that reinforced cement concrete ash pits shall have walls not less than six inches thick, the reinforcing to be of not less than seven gauge mesh weighing forty pounds to the one hundred square feet.

 

Metal ash pits shall be constructed of not less than sixteen gauge metal and said pits must be securely fastened to a cement concrete base at least four inches thick, or a similarly substantial and permanent base.

 

All ash pits shall be constructed to contain not less than one cubic yard when filled.

 

The opening used for the purpose of emptying said ash pits shall be at least sixteen inches wide and fourteen inches high.

 

The doors to said pits shall be made of not less than twelve gauge metal or of cast iron and shall be kept in repair and closed when not being used to empty said pits.

 

All ash pits shall be constructed on the alley line so that the same may be emptied from the alley, and no receptacle for ashes shall be allowed to overflow or to be so constructed that the contents will be blown about by the wind.

 

If no space is available on which to construct an ash pit the City Manager is authorized to issue a special permit to any applicant to use an ash can. Such cans at all times shall be kept in proper repair and fitted with proper lids; lids to be kept closed when the cans are not being filled or emptied.
