ORDINANCE NO. 511
AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO THE LICENSING OF PEDDLERS AND SOLICITORS AND PRESCRIBING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION THEREOF
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION:
SECTION 1. No person shall canvas or solicit orders or peddle or sell any goods, wares or merchandise or other thing, then in his possession, within the City of Grand Junction, elsewhere than at his own place of business, except as set forth in this Ordinance, without first having obtained a license therefor from the City Clerk of said City; provided that nothing contained herein shall be construed to apply to the sale of food stuffs, or to any person selling or offering for sale any article of his own manufacture, or to any person soliciting or selling as an agent or salesman of any regularly established business within said City, or to any farmer selling or offering for sale the produce of his own farm, or to the selling of books, pictures or school supplies.
SECTION 2. The fee for such license shall be: for each person canvassing or soliciting orders $10.00 for each month or part thereof; for each person peddling or selling on foot, $10.00 for each month or part thereof; for each person peddling or selling from any conveyance or vehicle, $15.00 for each month or part thereof; for each person soliciting orders for the copying or enlarging of pictures, except the same shall be the product of some local place of business and the work done within the City, $15.00 for each month or part thereof.
SECTION 3. Any and all licenses issued in compliance with the requirements of this ordinance shall be issued in the manner and form, and subject to the conditions and limitations, prescribed by Sections 1 to 6, inclusive of Ordinance No. 238, as amended by Ordinance No. 397, of the City of Grand Junction and any subsequent amendments thereof.
SECTION 4. Any person violating any of the provisions of this Ordinance shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by a fine in the sum of not more than $100.00 for each offense; and every day that any person shall violate any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed a separate offense.
SECTION 5. The City Council is of the opinion and finds, determines and declares that this Ordinance is necessary for the preservation of the public health and safety, and that a special emergency exists therefor; and this Ordinance shall therefore be effective and in force from and after its adoption and passage.
