DEFINITION
Oversee, maintain and provide technical support for the computerized Central Control irrigation system; monitor and maintain irrigation to ensure effective and accurate irrigation of City green spaces; perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from the Parks Maintenance Supervisor.
PRIMARY DUTIES--The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
1. Oversee Central Control irrigation system to ensure efficient and accurate watering of City green spaces; test and review status of irrigation system; diagnose system errors; evaluate and prioritize service requirements and equipment maintenance, replacement and repair projects.
2. Work with crews to perform repairs and maintenance of irrigation equipment and management system.
3. Manage irrigation system, lights and outlets to effectively irrigate around scheduled projects and events.
4. Perform water audits and irrigation efficiency reviews of City property; calculate evapotranspiration rate to determine optimum watering times and coverage; review audit results and make adjustments to water scheduling and irrigation programming.
5. Develop and monitor computer spreadsheets to evaluate water usage trends and costs; analyze City water invoices for accuracy; assist with forecasting water usage for budget projections.
6. Meet with vendors to obtain new product information and software updates; purchase components for irrigation maintenance management system.
7. Attend meetings relating to water usage, conservation, landscaping and irrigation.
8. Schedule and manage testing program for backflow devices to assure effective operations; repair and replace devices as required; maintain spreadsheet for scheduling and testing; ensure compliance with State laws.
9. Troubleshoot computers, software, weather stations and connection and link systems.
10. Prepare and maintain a variety of records, reports, and logs.
11. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Soil types, soil type testing and soil amendments.
Plant types and best practices for healthy plant growth.
Process of evapotranspiration, programming, flows, gallons per minute, and precipitation.
Backflow use, sizing, determining use per location.
Communication systems; two wire, 450-900 MGZ, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, phone and solar connects.
Grounding, surge protection and wiring for equipment installation.
Pumps and filtration systems.
Methods, standards, techniques, materials, equipment, and tools used in the installation, maintenance, and
reconstruction of systems, equipment, and facilities in area of assignment.
General mathematics including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
Customer service procedures and principles.
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
Principles and practices of record keeping.
English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Applicable tools and equipment operations.
Applicable Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations.
Ability to:
Understand all aspects of irrigation systems.
Read water usage and run comparisons with Central Control run times and rates.
Diagnose stress, fungus, over watering or under watering of turf.
Perform maintenance, construction and repair work in the area of work assigned.
Use and operate hand and power tools, vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment, and other equipment
required for the work in a safe and efficient manner.
Identify, make recommendations and take actions to resolve problems related to assigned area.
Read and interpret basic maps and blueprints.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Repair and maintain a variety of City equipment and tools.
Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public and City employees.
Establish and maintain accurate records, logs, and files.

Experience and Training Guidelines
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in parks maintenance, horticulture, landscape/irrigation
management or related field experience.
Training:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
License or Certificate
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver license.
