ORDINANCE NO. 662
AN ORDINANCE TEMPORARILY INCREASING WAGES AND SALARIES OF CITY EMPLOYEES AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, the rise in commodity prices has greatly increased living costs and justifies a temporary increase in the wages and salaries of regular city employees and, in the opinion of the City Council, an increase should be granted to assist in overcoming undue hardships thereby created:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO:
Section 1. That the temporary increase in wages and salaries authorized by Ordinance No. 655 shall remain in force and effect for the term commencing January 1, 1943 and continuing until December 31, 1943.
Section 2. That effective January 1, 1943 and continuing until December 31, 1943, in addition to the above mentioned increase, all regular employees of said City of Grand Junction, except the City Manager, City Attorney, City Veterinarian, City Physician, Cemetery Caretaker, Librarian, and part time employees, shall be granted an additional temporary increase in wages and salaries in an amount of 5% of their base pay before the first increase is added.
Section 3. The City Council of said City, may, by resolution or ordinance, extend the term of payment of the above temporary increases for periods of time not exceeding one year each, if in its discretion such extension or extensions are necessary and advisable.
Section 4. That in the opinion of the City Council a special emergency exists and this ordinance shall therefore go into effect upon its passage.
