ORDINANCE NO. 672
AN ORDINANCE TEMPORARILY INCREASING WAGES AND SALARIES OF CITY EMPLOYEES AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY THEREFOR.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Grand Junction has heretofore authorized temporary increases in salary to its employees to relieve the hardships resulting from increased living costs; and
WHEREAS, the Council is of the opinion that the former increases should be extended for another year and that an additional increase should be made.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO:
Section 1. That the temporary increases in wages and salaries authorized by Ordinances Nos. 655 and No. 662 shall continue and remain in force and effect for the term commencing January 1, 1944 and continuing until December 31, 1944.
Section 2. That effective January 1, 1944, and continuing until December 31, 1944, in addition to the above mentioned increases, all regular employees of said City of Grand Junction, except the City Manager, City Attorney, City Veterinarian, City Physician, and part-time employees, be granted an additional temporary increase in wages and salaries in an amount sufficient to make the total increase, including that provided for in Section 1 of this Ordinance, equal to 15 per cent of the base pay before any increase provided for in either Section 1 or 2 here of is added.
Section 3. The City Council of said City may by resolution or ordinance extend the term of payment of any of the above temporary increases for periods of time not exceeding one year each, if in its discretion such extensions are necessary and advisable.
Section 4. That in the opinion of the City Council, a special emergency exists, and this Ordinance is necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety and therefore this Ordinance shall go into effect upon its passage.
