DEFINITION

 

Direct, manage, supervise and coordinate the programs and activities of the Tiara Rado Golf Course and Pro Shop; oversee the management of the course grounds maintenance staff for both City owned golf courses; coordinate assigned activities with other departments, divisions and outside agencies; provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Director of Parks and Recreation.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

 

Receives direction from the Director of Finance; position is “at will”, serving at the pleasure of the Director.

 

Exercises direct supervision over assigned Tiara Rado golf course staff as well as the grounds maintenance staff for both City owned golf courses.

 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES--The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

 

1.  Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of assigned staff; participate in the selection of assigned staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.

 

2.  Oversee the management and performance of all golf shop and applicable department operations and services; assure high standards and total customer satisfaction.

 

3.  Establish and enforce golf shop operations policies, procedures, controls, and fee structures to ensure the safekeeping of assets, inventory and resources.

 

4.  Participate in the development and administration of the division's annual budget; participate in the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments.

 

5.  Schedule course event times so that various functions do not conflict; maintain tee time management system; and participate in program instruction, to include lessons, with golf patrons.

 

6.  Develop and coordinate golf marketing initiatives including all promotional materials, play recruitment, yield management, golf packages, and outside events; stay current on developments in golf; speak at various clubs, educational and/or community functions on behalf of the City of Grand Junction.

 

7.  Respond to inquiries and concerns from customers; handle elevated or difficult issues and resolve problems in a timely manner.

 

8.  Monitor the adherence to safe work practices and procedures; investigate all health and safety related incidents and accidents; stay abreast of state and federal occupational safety and health requirements; perform regular safety inspections and keep accurate documentation.

 

9.  Oversee a profitable merchandise concession that is consistent with customer/patron demographics and needs.

 

10.  Develop and oversee an innovative tournament schedule and golf activities program including golf instruction, clinics, and player development program for all customer segments.

 

11.  Oversee all fiscal responsibilities and performance for the golf operations including planning, budgeting, forecasting, monitoring, and corrective management.

 

12.  Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures and priorities for assigned programs; recommend improvements and modifications.

 

13.  Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of professional golf; maintain contact with various golf associations, local news media, commercial firms, civic organizations and other entities to promote golf programs.

 

14.  Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Experience and Training Guidelines

Minimum Requirements:

 

 

Experience:

 

 Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in operating golf courses, pro shops and associated facilities.

 

 Training:

 

 High School Diploma or G.E.D.

 

Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

 

License or Certificate

 

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.

 

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Class “A” Professional Golf Association card.

 

Possession of, or ability to obtain, the City of Grand Junction Leadership Track certification within two (2) years of appointment.
