DEFINITION

 

Assist in leading, overseeing and coordinating all programs and activities related to golf operations at Tiara Rado and Lincoln Park Golf Courses: manage the daily operations of the pro shops; supervise, schedule, and evaluate assigned staff; develop, implement, and expand programs to increase participation through innovative instruction, merchandising strategies, and events; perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

Receives direction from the Director of Golf.

 

Exercises direct supervision over assigned areas and staff.

 

PRIMARY DUTIESThe following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

 

1.  Assist in overseeing the management and performance of the golf shops; establish and enforce golf shop operations policies, procedures, controls, and fee structures to ensure the safekeeping of assets, inventory and resources.

 

2.  Develop golf course services; organize tournaments and special events; coordinate tournament details including pairings for tournament operations, rules, scoring, and prize distribution and presentation; implement and monitor golf programs to increase participation, sales, and revenue

 

3.  Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of assigned staff; participate in the selection of assigned staff; provide and coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.

 

4.  Supervise the daily operations of Tiara Rado and Lincoln Park pro shop; oversee and participate in performing opening and closing procedures, collection of greens fees and passes, golf cart rentals, driving range operations and sales of pro shop merchandise; ensure proper tee time management and adequate staff scheduling.

 

5.  Provide customer service and information to the public; answer questions regarding use of golf facilities; assist customers with sales of pro shop merchandise; investigate customer complaints; recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.

 

6.  Complete daily reports on transactions and prepare deposits; participate in the preparation and administration of assigned budget; submit budget recommenda­tions; monitor expenditures.

 

7.  Provide golf lessons and instruction including private, group and series lessons based on The Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) of America’s teaching principles; prepare and instruct golf clinics.

 

8.  Participate in the preparation and administration of assigned budget; submit budget recommenda­tions; monitor expenditures.

 

9.  Maintain Class A status as a PGA Professional through the PGA Professional Golf Management (PGM) educational program.

 

10.  Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge of:

 

Pro shop organization and management.

Operational characteristics, services, and activities of a golf course.

The United States Golf Association (USGA) Rules of Golf and mechanics of the game of golf.

Principles and practices of event preparation including tournament pairing programs and golf handicap management.

Principles and practices of cash handling and internal control.

Golf products, merchandise marketing and inventory methods.

Methods and techniques of providing golf instruction.

Principles of lead supervision and training.

Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Modern office technology and equipment, including computers and related software applications.

Applicable tools and equipment operations.

Applicable Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations.

Methods and techniques of public relations and customer service.

Experience and Training Guidelines

Minimum Requirements:

 

 Experience:

 

 Three years of increasingly responsible experience in golf course operations and/or associated supervisory responsibility.

 

Training:

 

 High School Diploma or G.E.D

 

 Class ‘A’ status or membership in The PGA of America.

 

License or Certificate

 

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.

 

Possession of, or ability to obtain, City of Grand Junction Leadership Track certification within two (2) years of appointment.

 

Possession of, and maintenance of, Class “A” Professional Golf Association card.

 

 

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Environmental Conditions:

 

The job is performed in the following working environment:

 

Indoor and outdoor recreational facilities; travel from site to site; exposure to inclement weather conditions.

 

 

Physical Conditions:

 

The job is characterized by:

 

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
