ORDINANCE NO. 881

 

AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR THE PAYMENT OF EMPLOYEES' CONTRIBUTIONS UNDER THE FEDERAL OLD-AGE AND SURVIVORS' INSURANCE SYSTEM AND PROVIDING FOR THE TRANSFER OF FUNDS REMAINING IN THE GENERAL FUND FROM THE FORMER CITY PENSION SYSTEM.

 

 WHEREAS, by Ordinance No. 879 of the City of Grand Junction the former pension plan of the City of Grand Junction has been repealed, dissolved and liquidated with the balance of funds formerly in The Employees' Pension Fund, after payment to employees of their contributions and interest thereon, remaining in the General Fund of said City;

 

 WHEREAS, there has been adopted Ordinance No. 880 providing for the coverage of employees and officers of the City of Grand Junction under the Federal Old-Age and Survivors' Insurance System and appropriating funds representing the employer's contribution; and

 

 WHEREAS, there is an obligation upon the City of Grand Junction to pay the contributions of employees of the City from January 1, 1951, to July 31, 1953;

 

 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO:

 

 Section 1. The appropriate officers of the City of Grand Junction are hereby authorized and empowered to pay to the Colorado Department of Employment Security the contribution to be made by employees of the City of Grand Junction for the period commencing January 1, 1951, and ending July 31, 1953, under the plan, or plans, and agreement to be executed and delivered to The Colorado Department of Employment Security pursuant to said Ordinance No. 880 and funds are hereby appropriated from the General Fund of the City of Grand Junction for such purpose.

 

 Section 2. The balance of funds remaining in said General Fund from moneys received from The Employees' Pension Fund under said Ordinance No. 879, after payment of contributions and interest to employees under said Ordinance No. 879 and after payment to the Colorado Department of Employment Security of employer and employees contributions for the period from January 1, 1951, to July 31st, 1953 under said Ordinance No. 880 and this Ordinance, shall be transferred to and become a part of the funds of each department of the City of Grand Junction which contributed to The Employees' Pension Fund in the same proportion that such department contributed in aggregate to The Employees' Pension Fund.

 

 Section 3. EMERGENCY CLAUSE. In the opinion of the City Council, a special emergency exists, and this Ordinance is necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health, and safety, and it shall therefore be in full force and effect immediately after its passage and final publication.

 

 PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 5th day of August, 1953.

 I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing emergency ordinance entitled, "AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING FUNDS FOR THE PAYMENT OF EMPLOYEES' CONTRIBUTIONS UNDER THE FEDERAL OLD-AGE AND SURVIVORS' INSURANCE SYSTEM AND PROVIDING FOR THE TRANSFER OF FUNDS REMAINING IN THE GENERAL FUND FROM THE FORMER CITY PENSION SYSTEM," was introduced, read, passed, numbered 881 and ordered published by the unanimous vote of the members of the City Council of the City of Grand Junction, at a regular meeting of said Council, held on the 5th day of August, 1953.
