ORDINANCE NO. 1286

 

 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 31 (a) OF CHAPTER 7

 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION,

 CONCERNING THE DEFINITION OF CONTRACTOR;

 AMENDING SECTION 32 OF SAID CHAPTER TO PROVIDE

 AN ADDITIONAL CATEGORY OF CONTRACTOR;

 AND AMENDING SECTION 39 OF SAID CHAPTER

 TO PROVIDE A LICENSE FEE FOR SUCH CONTRACTOR.

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION:

 

1. That Section 31 (a) of Chapter 7 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Grand Junction be amended to read as follows:

 

Section 31. Contractor defined.

 

(a) Who undertakes with or for another, within the City, to build, construct, alter, repair, add to, move, or wreck any building or structure or any portion thereof, or who undertakes the improvement of any building or structure for which improvement a charge is made, either by a fixed sum, price, fee, percentage, or other combination besides wages. Such definition shall include those normally denominated in the building trades as "sub-contractors."

 

2. That Section 32 of Chapter 7 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Grand Junction be amended to read as follows:

 

Section 32. Contractors classified.

 

For the purposes of this article, contractors shall be divided into the following classifications for definition:

 

(a) Contractor unlimited. A contractor on an unlimited type or size of structure, as may by ordinance be permitted, shall be known as a "contractor unlimited."

 

(b) Contractor not to exceed $100,000.00. A contractor on a type or size of structure, as may by ordinance be permitted, on which the total value of all labor and materials used shall not exceed one hundred thousand dollars, shall be known is a "contractor not to exceed $100,000.00".

 

(c) Contractor not to exceed $50,000.00. A contractor on a type or size of structure, as may by ordinance be permitted, on which the total value of all labor and materials used shall not exceed fifty thousand dollars, shall be known as a "contractor not to exceed $50,000.00."

 

(d) Contractor not to exceed $25,000.00. A contractor on a type or size of structure, as relay by ordinance be permitted, on which the total value of all labor and materials used shall not exceed twenty-five thousand dollars, shall be known as a "contractor not to exceed $25,000.00."

 

(e) Contractor not to exceed $5,000.00. A contractor on a type or size of structure, as may by ordinance be permitted, on which the total value of all labor and materials used shall not exceed five thousand dollars, shall be known as a "Contractor not to exceed $5,000.00."

 

(f) Special contractor. A person who contracts for labor or for labor and material involving only one trade or one particular kind of work with the building industry, shall be known as a "Special Contractor."

 

3. That Section 39 of Chapter 7 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Grand Junction be amended by adding thereto a sub-section (g), which shall read as follows:

 

Section 39. License fees.

 

(g) Contractor not to exceed $5,000.00. Contractor not to exceed $5,000.00 shall pay an annual license fee of twenty-five dollars ($25.00).
