ORDINANCE NO. 1320

 

AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE REGULATION OF RIGHT TURN ON STEADY RED TRAFFIC SIGNAL, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO:

 

1. That sub-section (f) of Section 15-5 of Chapter 28 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Grand Junction is hereby repealed and enacted in its place is the following:

 

(f) Steady red alone:

 

(1) Vehicular traffic facing a steady red signal alone shall stop before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or at a sign or pavement marking indicating where the stop shall be made, or in the absence of any such crosswalk, sign, or marking, then before entering the intersection and shall remain stopped or standing until a green indication is shown; except, that the driver of any such vehicle, after coming to a stop and after yielding the right-of-way to pedestrians and other traffic proceeding as directed, may make a right turn when a steady red signal alone is displayed unless such right turn is specifically prohibited as declared in Section 2 of this Ordinance.

 

(2) When signs are erected giving notice thereof, no driver shall make a right turn on a steady red signal at the following intersections in the direction(s) and at the time(s) indicated:

(3) Pedestrians facing a steady red signal alone shall not enter the roadway, unless permitted to proceed by a pedestrian control signal as provided in Section 15-8.

 

(4) The provisions of this Ordinance shall not apply to authorized emergency vehicles.

 

2. This ordinance is necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and welfare and shall become effective July 1, 1969.
