ORDINANCE NO. 1558

ORDINANCE TO PRESCRIBE REGULATIONS CONSISTENT WITH RECOGNIZED GOOD PRACTICE FOR THE SAFEGUARDING OF LIFE AND PROPERTY FROM THE HAZARDS OF FIRE AND EXPLOSION ARISING FROM THE STORAGE, HANDLING AND USE OF HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES, MATERIALS AND DEVICES, AND FROM CONDITIONS HAZARDOUS TO LIFE OR PROPERTY IN THE USE OR OCCUPANCY OF BUILDINGS OR PREMISES.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO:

That pursuant to the authority conferred by the laws of the State of Colorado and the Charter of the City of Grand Junction, Colorado, there is hereby adopted as the Fire Code of the City of Grand Junction the UNIFORM FIRE CODE, 1973 Edition, published by International Conference of Building Officials and Western Fire Chiefs Association, 5360 South Workman Mill Road, Whittier, California 90601, by reference thereto; provided, however, that the following sections are deleted therefrom:

Any and all sections or parts of sections of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Grand Junction, Colorado, as amended, in conflict or inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed.

A public hearing on the adoption by reference thereto of the UNIFORM FIRE CODE, 1973 Edition, be and the same hereby is scheduled in the City Auditorium in the City of Grand Junction, Colorado, at 7:30 o'clock P.M. on the 16th day of April, 1975, and the City Clerk is hereby directed to publish Notice of said public hearing in the manner and style and pursuant to the schedule of such publication prescribed in Colorado Revised Statutes, 31-12-403(1973).

At least three (3) copies of the UNIFORM FIRE CODE, 1973 Edition, all certified to be true copies, shall be on file in the office of the City Clerk of the City of Grand Junction, Colorado, at least fifteen (15) days preceding said hearing and may be inspected by any interested person between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday.

Any violation of the Uniform Fire Code from and after the effective date thereof shall be punishable by a fine not exceeding $300.00 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding ninety (90) days, or by both fine and imprisonment.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing ordinance, being Ordinance No. 1558, was introduced, read, and ordered published by the City Council of the City of Grand Junction, Colorado, at a regular meeting of said body held on the 19th day of March, 1975, and that the same was published in the Daily Sentinel, a newspaper published and in general circulation in said City, at least ten days before its final passage.
