ORDINANCE NO. 1576
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CITY'S DOG LEASH LAW BY PROVIDING MINIMUM PENALTIES FOR OFFENSES THEREUNDER.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION:
That Section 6-26 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Grand Junction shall be amended to read as follows:
"Section 6-26. RUNNING AT LARGE PROHIBITED - PENALTY.
"(a) It shall be unlawful for any person owning or possessing a dog to permit it to be at large within the city, and every person owning or having a dog shall confine it to his or her premises when not on leash and under the immediate control of a competent and responsible attendant. The head of any household having a dog in its possession shall be presumed to be the owner or possessor of such dog.
"(b) The minimum penalty for a first offense under subsection (a) shall be a fine of $25.00, with succeeding offenses requiring a minimum penalty of $50.00 for each such succeeding offense; provided, however, that nothing herein shall deny the Municipal Judge the right to suspend all or a portion of any punishment as he may determine."
