AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING MONIES FOR FUNDING A VISITORS AND CONVENTION BUREAU IN THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION.

WHEREAS, the tourist and convention business is of vital importance to the City of Grand Junction and all of the retail business interests in the City; and

WHEREAS, the tourist and convention business is at a low level requiring immediate stimulation through the establishment and funding of a Visitors and Convention Bureau to provide a concentrated program to lead to the increase of tourism, the encouragement of conventions and the furthering of economic development within the community; and

WHEREAS, to provide funding for the Bureau the City Council has reduced the collection fee permitted retailers for the collection of the City Sales Tax from five percent (5%) to three and one-third (3-1/3) percent in the belief that all retail segments of the City will benefit from the establishment and funding of the Bureau;

That the monies derived from the reduction from five per cent to three and one-third per cent of the percentage permitted retailers for the collection of the City Sales Tax be appropriated to provide funding for a Visitors and Convention Bureau within the City to be constituted and empowered as the City Council may, by resolution, from time to time provide.
