ORDINANCE NO. 2377
CONCERNING PEDDLERS AND SOLICITORS AND LEVYING A BUSINESS LICENSE TAX ON THAT ACTIVITY
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION:
That Article VI of Chapter 17 is amended by the addition of the following sections:
Sec. 17-86. Levy of Tax
The following occupational license tax is hereby levied under this article:
The license tax for peddler or solicitor shall be ten dollars ($10.00) for any consecutive period of three (3) months. No person shall operate as a peddler or solicitor without first obtaining a license from the finance department. Any peddler or solicitor who suffers from a physical handicap and who sells products in connection with a program for livelihood shall be required to obtain a permit, but shall not be subject to a business license tax. This tax shall not apply to a person engaged in charitable or not for profit solicitation or peddling.
Sec. 17-87. Separate tax required for each peddler or solicitor.
Each individual peddler or solicitor shall be subject to a separate and full tax under this article.
Sec. 17-88. Application and method of Collection.
(a) Application for a business license tax under this article shall be made on a uniform form provided without charge by the finance and administrative services department.
(b) The director of finance and administrative services shall be charged with the administration and collection of the license tax authorized under this article.
Sec. 17-89. Transfer.
(a) No license issued under the provisions of this article shall be transferred or assigned nor shall it authorize any person other than the person named in the license to carry on the business therein named.
(b) Solicitors and peddlers are required to exhibit their licenses at the request of any citizen.
