ORDINANCE NO. 2421
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 31-8 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION REGARDING A CHARGE TO HAVE THE CITY TURN ON OR TURN OFF WATER AT A METER.
WHEREAS, present Section 31-8 of the City Code provides for a charge of $8.00 to be paid by a customer when the City turns off or turns on water, and for that same charge to be made even if the turn-off or turn-on is made at a time other than during normal business hours; and
WHEREAS, if a City water customer requests water turn off or turn on during non-business hours it costs the City additional overtime wages and additional equipment costs; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that those additional costs should be borne by the customer receiving said service.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAND JUNCTION:
Section 31-8 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Grand Junction is amended by the deletion of the second sentence of said existing section and by the insertion in place of said deleted sentence the following language:
"If the City, at the request of a customer, turns said customer's water meter on or off during hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during a normal business day, said customer shall pay to the City, in addition to all other amounts owing to the City, the sum of $50.00 which amount reflects the cost to the City of overtime wages and equipment costs. Said sum of $50.00 shall be paid in all instances except where the request for the turn-on or the turn-off is as a consequence of a leak in the domestic water service line between the water meter and the point at which the service line enters the dwelling or structure. If the request to turn on or turn off is as a consequence of a leak or repair within the dwelling or on a sprinkler system then said $50.00 charge shall be imposed."
